The plane landed in Frankfurt at 5.30am… It has been a long way… and I still have to take another flight to Helsinki that leaves at 9.15am… In Frankfurt I say bye to Stephane that will continue his journey back to France and then I spend some time shopping. It’s soon time to take off! But the way is still long…

<img src="http://www.danilovizzarro.it/images/travelling/bali0-910.jpg" alt="bali0 910 Frankfurt > Helsinki" width="100%" title="Frankfurt > Helsinki" />

It’s quite cloudy outside and I feel really overtired! I remember when I was a kid and my parents were driving somewhere, I was always asking ‘Are we there yet?’… well today the feeling is the same… But at 1.00pm I’m back to Helsinki.

The trip has been simply amazing and full of emotions that cannot be described. The people we met were super friendly, the prices of food and hotels quite low and the landscapes and the nature simply wonderful! Too bad it takes so long to go there! But a trip to Bali is strongly advised to everybody!

Also today wake up call even earlier at 5.30 and it’s again a mistake. Tonight we are leaving so it doesn’t worth to argue. Luckily we manage to sleep a bit more and we get up at 10.00. We prepare our luggage and we do the check out. From here, we take taxi to the Istiqlal Mosque that is the largest one of the Southeast Asia. To get in there, we have to take off our shoes, and at the entrance they immediately realize that we are visitors and not prayers so somebody come to welcome us, ask us to dress some special clothes and take us around the mosque.

<img src="http://www.danilovizzarro.it/images/travelling/bali0-901.jpg" alt="bali0 901 Jakarta > Frankfurt" width="100%" title="Jakarta > Frankfurt" />

There is also an open space where they bring us to take some photos.

<img src="http://www.danilovizzarro.it/images/travelling/bali0-907.jpg" alt="bali0 907 Jakarta > Frankfurt" width="100%" title="Jakarta > Frankfurt" />

When we are done we go to eat some brunch in a restaurant nearby the mosque and then back to the hotel to get our luggage and to take a taxi to the airport. We take off at 7.00pm and the long way back home starts…

Today wake up call at 5.30 but it’s a mistake. It seems there is somebody that request a wake up call for us instead of somebody else. Stephane alarm is set at 7.00 but is another mistake, room service at 8.00 but we don’t need it so early… we didn’t sleep that well till now… a couple of more hours of sleep and we get up at 11.00. We look for a place where to have breakfast and we end up in a Japanese restaurant eating rise. From here we take one of the typical taxi of Jakarta to go to the National Museum of Jakarta.

We spend a bit more then one hour in the museum where there is nobody else then us. The employees are working only at the entrance and the silence in the museum big rooms is almost scary. From here we proceed to see the National Monument but we can see it only from the outside because it’s 3.10pm and the monument closes at 3.00pm.

We stop talking to a local person on our way and he that tells us that we should visit the Istiqlal Mosque that is close to where we are, so we try to get there by walking but it’s more difficult then what we thought. It takes one hour walking around and then it’s start raining heavily so we decide to take another taxi to go to the hotel where we leave the cameras and we relax a bit.

From here we visit a Burger King close to the hotel but meanwhile it’s still raining so we don’t feel like walking anywhere. We visit another shopping center for a while but without finding anything interesting, then go back to the hotel. Tomorrow we need to prepare our luggage because at 7.00pm we have our flight back home.

Quick breakfast and at 10.30 we take our taxi to the Denpasar airport. It’s a rainy day… and i don’t like flying with bad weather. It takes half an hour to arrive to the airport, we do the check in and we pass by the security checks. Also this time the flight will be with Air Asia. At 13.00 we take off and in less then 2 hours we arrive to Jakarta. Out of the Jakarta airport is plenty of people offering a taxi ride. We take one of the official taxi that for 170.000 Rp (around 17 Euro) take us to downtown Jakarta that is 1 hour away and where we have our Hotel. The traffic is really heavy.

We have a quick lunch in one of the restaurant nearby the hotel and then we go around the city. I can definitely say there are not many tourists in here and for some reason everybody is looking at us… We have a quick tour in a shopping mall just to see which kind of products there are, and it’s funny to see how they copy the design of the clothes that are sold in Europe. There are some tshirt that look exactly like the La Coste ones but the brand is Coccodrile. <img src='http://www.danilovizzarro.it/travelblog/wp-includes/images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif' alt=':D' class='wp-smiley' title="Bali > Jakarta" />

We are quite tired so quick dinner and then back to the hotel to sleep.

Last night while we were going around the city, we have found an offer for a surf lesson, so we bought that package. Today wake up at 9.30 and while we are going for breakfast we see our surf instructor that is already waiting for us in the lobby of the hotel. After the breakfast, all together we jump on his motorbike and we go to choose the surfboard that we will use for surfing. We get the nicest we could and then we go to Kuta Beach. It’s windy so there are lots of surfers.

The waves are quite high and the sun is shining so everything seems to be just perfect! We spend three hours surfing then we start to be tired and burnt by the sun so we return the surfboards, we go to eat a Big Mac and then we go back to the hotel to have a nap.

When we wake up, first thing we do is to check on the Internet an hotel where to stay in Jakarta that we will reach tomorrow. Then around 20.00 we go out for dinner and we find close to the hotel our friend Koming together with her friend Dayu on a motorbike. Few minutes later also Nina pops up. Kuta Beach seems to be quite small! We decide to go to have dinner together. They take us to a local place where we can really see the price difference with we the places we have been usually going to eat. This time for 5 meals, drinks and some milkshake we paid 120.000 Rp (less then 12 Euro).

Finished the dinner they bring us back to our hotel where we spend some time to prepare the luggage and then straight to sleep. Tomorrow we are going to leave Bali directed to Jakarta where we will spend 2 days.

Simple breakfast with some eggs and bread, then we do the check out and we go to the harbor where we take the fast boat back to Bali that we reach in 3 hours. We get on a shuttle bus that leave us to our hotel. After a shower we try to sleep but it’s not possible because there are some kids making noise out of the hotel. We go to see what was going on and they were having too much fun to let them stop.

Wake up at 6.30 to get our clothes from the laundry that seems to have done a pretty good job. At 7.00 Koming is already waiting for us in the hotel lobby to make sure that we arrive on time to the harbor from where we will take a boat to the Gili Islands. We take a shuttle bus to the harbor and from there we get on a fast boat that in 3 hours take us to Gili Trawangan, the most popular of the Gili Islands. The place seems to be wonderful. The water of the ocean is totally clean and finally we have found a white sand beach!

The island is famous to be a place where there are no cars or motorbikes. Only transportation means are bicycles and horses.

Our hotel is near the harbor so we go to do the check in. We leave our stuff and then we absolutely need to check the beach so we rent some snorkeling equipment and we jump in the ocean. Also here we can see many colorful fishes all around us and we don’t need to go to far from the cost to reach a deepness of more then 10 meters. The currency in the water is very strong so we prefer not to go too far from the coast. Quick lunch in a bar, we have an eatable pizza then we need a nap.

We get up just in time for dinner. The main street is full of restaurants that have fresh fish in exposition. We pick one of those big fish and some huge shrimps and here the dinner is server. The taste is so good! We check couple of bars that seems too crowded then we go to sleep when it’s around midnight.

Last two days have been quite stressful so we stay in bed ’till 14.00… We are supposed to meet our friend Koming that promised she would have taken us to Ubud by motorbike! At 15.30 she is waiting for us in the hall of the Hotel together with her friend Nina. Both of them came by motorbike. Everything is ready except that I need to pass by a laundry cause me and Stephan we both start needing to wash our clothes. We find a laundry close to the hotel so we leave our clothes and we get our bill that we will pay tomorrow. For 6 t-shirts plus my camera bag that is smelling like fish I have been charged for 15.000 Rp (less then 1.5 Euro).

This morning we woke up too late for the hotel breakfast so we ask Koming and Nina to bring us to some place where we can try Indonesian food. We go to a quite simple restaurant where we order 4 different portion of Indonesian rise with vagetables and chicken plus some drinks for only 6.000 Rp for all of us (less then 6 euro). There was also some chily that Stephan tryes and from his face I could understand it was quite spicy!

We are finally ready to go to Ubud that is 1 hour far from Kuta Beach. The traffic is quite heavy.

We arrive to Ubud and first thing we visit is the Monkey Forest! Monkeys seems to be a bit more aggressive then yesterday but they look quite funny! I sit and suddenly a monkey came to sit on my legs! I take the chance to take a picture but at the same time for some reason the monkey decides to byte my hand. We say bye to the monkeys and we go to the pharmacy to disinfect it.

From here next destination is the Temple of Ubud. There is a bar just in front of the temple so we sit there! We take this chance to ask Koming and Nina if they know how we could have reached Gili Island tomorrow. Koming, as always, has a solution ready so she give us a package that include a fast boat to Gili Island plus accomodation for 2 nights in hotel for 1.200.000 Rp each person.

Time to go back to Kuta. On the way back Koming needs to pass by her place so we have a chance to meet his father that doesn’t hesitate to come to talk to us. Short pit stop then we proceed to Kuta but… on the way…here is the police stopping all motorbikes. I was on the motorbike with Nina that tells me to relax because she has her paper with her so everything is under control. The police check takes 5 minutes then we can go… Koming instead forgot her driving license so we pay a real time fine of 50.000 Rp and here we can proceed on our way to Kuta!

We arrive back to our hotel, we goes to eat to another Indonesian place similar to the one where we had lunch this morning, then time to go to sleep! Tomorrow the meeting is at 6.30am direction Gili Island!

We wake up at 5.15am, half an hour to get ready and we go to see a wonderful panorama with dolphins!

We spend 1 hour admiring how beautiful is the nature, then we start snorkeling in the ocean. A jump in the warm water and immediately we are in the middle of hundreds of different kinds of colorful fishes never seen before. There is also a giant octopus! Words can’t explain what we have seen and unluckily we were not equipped to take photos under water.

Finished snorkeling we go back to the hotel. My camera bag got totally wet and now smells like fish. On our arrival to the beach there is a bunch of people trying to sell us souvenirs. Quick shower and breakfast and here our driver arrived to pick us up! We thank everybody for the hospitality and we leave to our next destination 15 minutes far away: the Budhis Temple!

A quick visit then we proceed to Banjar to swim in the Holy Spring Water that comes directly from the Volcano Batukaru. The water is very warm.

It’s 12.00am and next destination is the Git Git Waterfall 40 minutes from here. There are once again mini shops selling the same kind of souvenirs everywhere. We arrive in front of the waterfalls and the panorama is amazing! But it starts raining a lot so we decided to go back to the car.

On the way the street is full of monkeys seem to be really friendly so we stop to feed them with some bananas! The rain meanwhile doesn’t stop and my t-shirt starts to be totally wet.

Last destination of the day is one of the most important religious places of the island: the Ulun Danu Temple dedicated to the god of water! The temple is located in Bdugul.

It’s 14.45 and it’s time to go to the Tanaya Hotel in Kuta Beach that is 2 hours far from here in which we will spend the next couple of nights. Also if there is heavy rain but people still drive like they were in a private street. We arrive at the hotel around 17.00 and we are overtired. A stake for dinner, then a massage to relax. At 11.00pm we are quite destroyed so time to go to sleep.
